How should I approach or interpret Botdoc ID Verify results?

Interpreting ID Verify Results with Confidence

ID Verify is a powerful first line of defense, but it works best when it's one part of a broader review process, not the final word.

Results are a signal, not a verdict.

When ID Verify returns a result, treat it as informed input. A passing result means the document cleared automated checks. It doesn't mean the person is who they say they are, that the context makes sense, or that everything else about the interaction adds up. When something feels worth a closer look, the report page is a good place to start.

Stay engaged with the full picture.

Fraudsters know verification tools exist. They adapt. That's why your judgment matters alongside the technology. Ask yourself:

  • Does this person's behavior match what you'd expect?
  • Does anything about the situation feel off, even if the ID passed?
  • Are there other signals, inconsistencies in communication, unusual urgency, mismatched details, worth a second look?

A failed result deserves the same measured approach.

False failures are uncommon, but they happen. A failed result is a prompt to look closer, not a reason to act hastily. Before drawing conclusions, pull up the report page and consider whether there's a straightforward explanation: a worn or damaged document, poor image quality during capture, or an ID type the system doesn't recognize as readily. Approach a failure the same way you'd approach a pass, with curiosity and context, not assumption.

When in doubt, dig deeper.

Whether a result passes or fails, if something doesn't sit right, it's always appropriate to ask for more information, escalate, or apply additional scrutiny. The tool helps you work faster, but it doesn't replace the instinct that comes from experience. And if you're ever unsure how to interpret a result, you're welcome to reach out to us at support@botdoc.io. We're happy to help.

The bottom line:

ID Verify narrows the field and flags obvious problems. Your role is to stay alert to the ones it can't catch, and to bring the same level of judgment to every result, in either direction.
